Reddit, for those who are unfamiliar with the platform is, amongst many things, the place where those with shared interests go to discuss there favourite topics, ask questions, receive feedback.
Topics are organised into sub/reddits, making it easy to find others who all want to discuss the same subject. The range of topics is incredibly varied and could include everything from people who share pictures of animals without necks, /r/AnimalsWithoutNecks and broken bottles, /r/BrokenBottles to more useful ones such as /r/Coaching, a community for coaches to share tools, stories, challenges and /r/consulting, a community for consultants across various industries.
I’ve found the /r/sidehustle Subreddit particularly enlightening. Beyond the scammy posts I have come to recognise such as the idea of signing up to complete many surveys, or how to create content on multiple platforms that miraculously delivers five digit monthly revenue, came a gem of an idea that I thought had potential.
This particular post was regarding creating PDFs and selling them based on problems that were uncovered on Reddit to be of interest to a significant number of users, enough to warrant creating a standalone product to solve that particular problem.
The problems were identified by prompting ChatGPT to look in specific Subreddits for the questions that were most often asked and list them, then produce PDFs for sale around each specific problem area (again using AI). My first thought was, nice idea, but what about all the other use cases to which this could be applied.
What if the list created was used as a basis for creating social media posts?
Or mini courses?
Or even at honing your own offering to align with these very specific issues?
How could knowing the specific problems your potential customers faced help you in your own business to clarify what you do and who you do it for?
Last week I wrote about the benefit of surveying your customers and, in a sense, that’s what uncovering commonly asked questions in your industry is achieving, but in reverse. Instead of you having to guess the kind of questions to ask your potential customers, these potential customers are sharing their biggest problem with you.
Excited by this idea, I’ve already put it to the test and now have three pages of potential content ideas that I’m working my way through for one of my social channels. I’ll keep you updated as to how this goes!
Let me know how this works for you.
