“I’ve helped hundreds of women like you to scale their business to 6/7 figures so thought I’d reach out and see if I can help you in any way today?”
“Join the thousands of people who make 6-7 figures transforming their hobbies in online courses, books, and more.”
“My goal is to support small business owners in generating multiple 6-figures, through strategy, simplification, prioritization and accountability.”
“…help you learn how to implement effective sales systems to help you triple your turnover just like that! Guaranteed!”
These are a few of the messages that I have received in my LinkedIn box.
Notice the similarity?
Would I like to find a simple way to generate a 6-figure income?
Of course I would. (Who wouldn’t?).
Yet I know that success is rarely overnight.
According to Forbes, “Most small businesses take at least 2 to 3 years to be profitable and become truly successful once they've hit the 7 to 10 year mark.”
It’s simply not realistic to pin your hopes on internet gurus who promise you some variation of overnight success, because it’s rarely achievable.
Instead of relying on bogus claims, when hiring any type of specialist with whom you’re seeking advice is to ask for recommendations and look for reviews.
Most of the big ‘gurus’ will be reviewed on Trustpilot, Reddit, Quora or some other review or opinion platform. Some of the courses will be scattering the internet with fake review sites, so it’s worth looking at the bigger, more well known ones first.
If the offer is for a ‘Taster Event’ first, make sure you do your research first to find out about the upsell (because there is ALWAYS an upsell).
While I’m not anti the big name digital marketeers and business coaches, I also know that even following their step by step instructions to the letter will only be of massive benefit if you already know your ideal customer and where to find them. That’s the hard part - the rest, as they say, is gravy.
So, before jumping into any programme or course promising you the world, take a step back and ask yourself:
Do I have clarity about my business, my audience, and my goals?
Am I ready to commit to the hard work and time it will take to grow sustainably?
Have I done due diligence on the person or programme offering this solution?
So, the next time your LinkedIn inbox is flooded with promises of six- or seven-figure success, take it with a grain of salt. Do your research, trust your instincts, and focus on building a business that works for you—not just for someone else’s sales pitch.
