The Age Advantage Awards 2025: Honouring Bold and Brilliant Lives
Celebrating people & organisations championing pro-ageing
Currently, I’m organising the Advantages of Awards 2025 with my colleague,
who edits the Advantages of Age Substack and with whom I first started the social enterprise way back in 2016. We created it as a response to the media’s negative narrative around ageing.Among the many activities that have emerged from the organisation, Startup School for Seniors is a standout. We’ve also been fortunate to receive Arts Council funding, which has enabled us to produce films, host cabaret nights, and even hire a double-decker bus. For one memorable event, we invited anyone aged 50+ to come aboard dressed in their most colourful and flamboyant clothes—literally standing out!
The Awards were first launched in 2023 and were a massive, sold-out success. Many attendees commented on how incredible it was to discover a wide array of talented individuals and organisations they’d never heard of before, all dedicated to helping us feel better about getting older.
However, organising the event wasn’t easy. We were let down by a sponsorship agency we hired to help raise funds, which created enormous pressure on me and Rose to pull everything together in a very short amount of time. Afterward, we both agreed we needed a year off to recover and regroup. (You can read about what happened here.) On the plus side, I learned more about the challenges of fundraising and about stepping into my own vulnerability than I had previously.
Now we’re back with a bang! Early Bird Tickets are on sale for the event, which will once again be held at the beautiful Hoxton Hall in London on 20th November. We encourage you to join us for an opportunity to celebrate, meet fellow GWDC members, and support Advantages of Age.
Nominations are still open to and you can vote for people/organisations in the following categories (including yourself!!):
I really hope that you will join us in making this another sold-out, successful event, with all money raised, after expenses, going to Advantages of Age, helping us to carry on with our mission to ‘Rethink Ageing’.
All the best,
Suzanne
