Really interesting read Suzanne. I lived in the US in my 20’s and most people including myself had more than one job because healthcare and education aren’t as supported as they are here in the UK. When I think of the term ‘professionally plural’ it feels more about expressing different parts of yourself rather than making ends meet. Do you think it’s more about identity and choice than necessity?

That's a good question. I suspect, in time, it will become more out of necessity than choice. For me, my different roles reflect different interests. I don't think there's an adequate word (that I like!) that expresses having a portfolio career without it sounding pretentious or as if one lacks focus!

It was always a necessity for me. I had multiple jobs, many have, do, always will. For me it was an obvious choice, I worked clubs at night, office in day, shops some weekends, sold my crafts, whatever it took to achieve my goals. There are so many opportunities now compared to then, online has changed the game.
