Beginnings are hard
Nearly four years ago, Mark and I created Startup School for Seniors with the help of a COVID response grant. At the time, we had no idea where this endeavour would lead. As two people in our fifties who had lost most of our work due to the pandemic, we had decades of entrepreneurship experience behind us. All we knew was that we wanted to support others in a similar situation - those looking to generate an income but unsure how to do so.
Why this? Why now
Over the past year, we’ve conducted various experiments to discover how we can help continue our support. We’ve tested a community feature on our Startup School for Seniors platform and found it clunky and poorly-liked. We moved our newsletter from Mailchimp to Hubspot and saw our open rates drop. And now, we’re here on Substack because we believe it offers the kind of functionality we’re looking for, and you’ll find it valuable.
What kind of community are you looking to build here?
The Substack platform actually allows us to stay in touch with you in a useful way. It enables us to offer a low-cost subscription model for anyone who wants to take advantage of it, which includes a monthly power hour, 15-minute office hours with Mark or me, free workshops, and more. We’ve tried to keep it as low as possible, and at £9.99/month, we believe it offers incredibly good value.
We know that confidence can drop after a course is finished and that staying in touch with your peers can really help prevent that. Taking advantage of Substack's Chat function is a way for you to ask questions and for us to continue communicating with you. We want to maintain the energy and help your business to grow after the programme ends.
No spam promise
We intend to deliver a weekly newsletter that will replace the newsletter you may have received previously.
It will feature:
Interviews with business owners and productivity experts sharing their best tips
Honest reviews of the latest productivity tools and apps
Opportunities to join focused workshops to grow your business
Reminders of upcoming Moving Forward sessions and important dates for your diary
Let’s grow this together
The whole point of doing this is creating something valuable for you. We welcome your input and suggestions for what you would like us to offer as part of this new initiative. This is the next chapter in your journey, designed to help unlock your true potential and propel your business forward.
Join now, and let's conquer your to-do list together.
